Island4WDLife.com can trace its roots way back to the mid-90′s, when I started BCOffroad.com–at the time, a pioneering 4WD travel and adventure website dedicated to “discovering off-road adventure in British Columbia and beyond”.
Next came 4WDTraveller.com, one of the first off road blogs to enter the blogosphere. At the time, I lived overseas and was exploring parts of Russia and Asia by 4×4 so had expanded beyond BC’s borders. Today, Canada’s Vancouver Island is home and this is where the idea for Island4WDLife.com was born…

The largest Pacific Island east of New Zealand, Vancouver Island spans over 32,000 square kilometers (12,000 square miles). In addition to being home to some of the best 4WD trails anywhere, and some of the most challenging terrain, Vancouver Island boasts amazing array of adventure travel and exploration opportunities.
4WD Exploration
While exploring Vancouver Island with my family in our trusty (and a little rusty) 4X4, I realized that in some ways I’ve seen less of Vancouver Island–my place of birth–than I have many other places on earth.
And getting to some of the best things to see and do on Vancouver Island often requires a 4X4 vehicle. Not a giant, rock crawling bull-bar boonie basher, but a stout, capable, affordable, and comfortable 4WD that can haul you and yours wherever you want to go.
